What to Do at Bai Chay Beach

    Swimming and Sunbathing

The roped swimming zone keeps the water safe and clear of boat traffic. Water temperature peaks between June and August, sitting around 28 to 30 degrees Celsius. Early morning, before 9:00 AM, is the best time to swim. The beach is quiet, the light is good, and the water tends to be cleanest before the day’s traffic picks up across the bay.

Sunbathing is best done in the late afternoon. The light at that hour makes the karsts in the distance glow. Bring your own mat or towel if you prefer not to pay for a beach chair.

    Water Sports

Local operators along the beach offer jet skiing, kayaking, banana boat rides, and parasailing. Jet skiing runs around 200,000 to 400,000 VND per session. Kayaking costs 100,000 to 200,000 VND. Agree on the price before you commit, and confirm that safety equipment is included. The operators are generally straightforward, but setting terms upfront avoids confusion.

    Walking the Promenade

The beachfront promenade is one of the more pleasant walks in Ha Long City. It runs the full length of the beach, then continues east toward Bai Chay Bridge. This cable-stayed bridge spans the Cua Luc River and connects the Bai Chay district to Hon Gai. After dark, it is lit with LED lighting and worth the 10-minute walk from the beach’s eastern end. Locals come here in the evenings to walk, cycle, and sit by the water.

    Sun World Ha Long Park

Adjacent to Bai Chay Beach, Sun World Ha Long Park is the largest entertainment complex in northern Vietnam at 214 hectares. It includes Dragon Park, Typhoon Water Park, and a Queen Cable Car connecting the coastal zone to the Ba Pass area on the hillside. Entry fees vary by attraction. Budget around 350,000 to 500,000 VND for a full-day pass. It suits families and anyone who wants a structured half-day. If neither applies to you, a walk along the promenade is the better use of your time.

April to June is the best window for Bai Chay Beach. The weather is warm and sunny. Crowds are lighter than peak summer. The water is comfortable for swimming. July and August are the warmest months and the most atmospheric, but they bring the most visitors and some heavy afternoon rain.

From November to March, the beach is quiet and occasionally foggy. Swimming is not comfortable, but the promenade and evening areas remain usable. If your main reason for visiting Ha Long is the bay cruise and the caves, the cooler months work well for the bay itself.
